Medical Imaging Physics is an interdisciplinary field in which the collaborative works of physicists, physicians, and engineers have resulted in the rapid technological advancement in medicine, exemplified by the innovation and advancement in Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Computed Tomography. These advancements have not only greatly impacted upon diagnostic imaging but also radiation oncology, as well as many other areas of patient care. Under the patronage of the Algerian Atomic Energy Commission (COMENA) chairman Dr. Mohamed Derdour, the Nuclear Research Centre of Algiers (CRNA) and The American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM), in collaboration with : The University Hospital Lamine Debbaghine (CHU-Bab-Oued) The Pierre et Marie Curie Centre (CPMC) The National Institute for Public Health (INSP) The Houari Boumediene Science and Technology University (USTHB) organise the International Symposium on Advances in Diagnostic Imaging Physics to be held May 4 - 7, 2008 in Algiers (Algeria). This workshop is internationally recognized as International Scientific Exchange Program (ISEP) funded by AAPM, with additional financial support by the International Organization of Medical Physics (IOMP). It is organized in different countries annually. This is the first time it is being held in Algeria and also the first time that it is being held in Africa. We anticipate attendance of health care professionals from several countries in the region, in addition to attendees from within Algeria. The purposes are two fold. One is to create an opportunity for the medical physicists, biomedical engineers, and physicians from Algeria, and other countries to gather together and to learn from each other’s experiences. The other is to promote clinical medical physics as a profession and to foster closer collaboration between physicians and academicians in Algeria. Professionals who specialized in diagnostic imaging, PET, molecular imaging, radiation oncology, computer technology, and radiation safety will present their work in didactic settings, so as to maximize the learning experience for the participants of the workshop, to inspire further collaborative research and developments within Algeria and internationally, and to improve the quality of patient care through closer involvements of medical physicists. This one week workshop includes lectures and workshops on various aspects of the applications of physics in medicine, emphasizing diagnostic imaging techniques and radiation treatment of cancer.
Medical Physicists, Medical Imaging Physicians, Nuclear Medicine Physicians, Radio-Oncologists, Technologists involved in diagnostic imaging, Biomedical engineers, Professors in University Physics Departments who are interested in medical physics.
227 participants attended the symposium.
